Lap Band Horror Stories
One of the things I see people searching for are lap band horror stories. I'm not sure what makes people want to search for things like that. Is it curiosity? Kind of like gawking at an accident Or are they trying to learn more about a procedure that to them, seems rather scary. I'm guessing the latter of the two. Everyone seems to have some minor problems now and again, but horror stories are few and far between.
It does seem like an odd thing to search for in some respects, failed lap band procedures are probably not well documented publically. Perhaps there is a pending lawsuit, or a gag order as a result of one, so you never really know what you are going to find in the way of quality lap band horror stories. You'd hope that what you would find, would chill you to the bone and make you think twice about ever considering lap band surgery.
It may seem funny to see this coming from someone who is banded, but consider this. Is it better to work yourself up into a tizzy over something that could on some very rare occasion happen? I'm thinking it isn't worth the increased blood pressure or quick heart beat.
Better off left alone me thinks. I mean even if you do a find a good horror report, do you believe it or not. People say all kinds of things on the net even bald face lies they'd never consider if the information was known to come from them. You have to wonder why people would make up stories. You know from news events that sometimes outright lies are imported as facts. Dr. offices probably hear their fair share of stories as well, but they are much closer to the source than the average person.
Well, playing off your fears is one reason. Perhaps they think they can sway your opinion of something and one way or another make you change your mind and join their side.
I have heard of people getting a faulty band and needing to have it replaced. Usually these were folks who got the surgery from outside the US with substandard bands for a lot less. This is pretty scary stuff. Though I don't hear nearly as many lap band surgery horror stories as I do plastic surgery horror stories or even gastric band horror stories. Probably that's for a couple reasons. Many more people have plastic surgery each year than are banded so there are more opportunities for things to go wrong. As far as gastric bypass problems. They are probably increased because of the invasiveness of the surgery. Your comparing a surgery in which a small band constricts part of your stomach, vs a surgery in which part of your stomach is summarily removed. It's obvious which one has the most potential to scare you.
